Mount Maker Beta 0.9.1 - Improved sleeve imports and SVG support

Originally published on itch.io

This small update focuses on making troublesome sleeves easier to import and adding another way to create custom arm protectors.

Sleeve imports are now more tolerant of small mesh problems. Some STL files look perfectly fine but contain touching edges, overlapping surfaces, or tiny fragments that cause errors when editing them. Mount Maker can now automatically clean up more of these issues when it can produce a valid result, without overwriting your original file.

I’ve also addressed cases where changing bolt spacing or adding bolt-access holes could produce mesh errors. These improvements should make working with downloaded sleeves more reliable. Some heavily damaged models will still need repair elsewhere, but fewer files should hit a dead end over small defects.

The arm-foot module now supports SVG drawings. If your frame has an available vector drawing, you can use it as a reference instead of starting with a photograph. Import the drawing, select the arm outline, confirm its dimensions, and place the mounting screws yourself.

The outline tools have also become more flexible:

  • Fine-tune curves using editable handles under Advanced options.
  • Delete unwanted handles with the delete button, Delete/Backspace, or click-to-remove mode.
  • Trim the arm length by marking a cut across the outline and choosing which end to keep. This defines where the protector starts.
  • Place screws manually, with the drawing’s holes and other details remaining visible as guides.

Your chosen outline, curves, and screw positions stay with the saved project, so you can return and adjust the design later.

SVG is the supported drawing format for now; DWG and DXF drawings need to be converted to SVG before importing. Always check the drawing’s scale against a known measurement before printing.
