WE ARE BACK - Mount Maker Beta 0.9
Originally published on itch.io
Hello friends, I know it has been too long. I wrote my code into a corner and well, life got in the way. Over the last 6 months I have worked hard to rewrite Mount Maker from the ground up, in a way that you wont have to depend on me for future updates with each new camera release. Thank you to all who have stuck with me since the beginning, I hope this is worth the wait. So what's new?
Mount Maker Beta 0.9 is a major rebuild, with more ways to create custom parts for your drone, a refreshed interface, and a much more flexible sleeve workflow.
The familiar red plastic models and wooden workbench are back, alongside a transparent Aero style UI. Designs update live as you adjust them, with familiar sliders and draggable number fields to make fine tuning easier.
What’s new:
- Import your own camera sleeves. Bring in STL or OBJ files, adjust their orientation, and trim away existing mounting hardware directly inside Mount Maker. You can then build a new mount around the prepared sleeve.
- More flexible action camera mounts. Front and rear bolt widths and arm lengths can now be adjusted independently. Sleeves can sit directly against the base, while adjustable connectors and optional fillets help create a cleaner transition between the sleeve and mount. Bolt access cutouts make it easier to reach mounting screws.
- A shareable sleeve library. Prepared sleeves can include author information, camera compatibility, and preparation notes. Add shared sleeve files to your library and reuse them across different builds. Drone profiles let you save and reuse bolt patterns and standoff measurements too. These can be sent to anyone with Mount Maker, or even shared on Thingiveres and etc.
- FPV camera soft mounts. Create paired mounts that slide over existing standoffs, with adjustable spacing, height, and camera position. Support includes one or two M2 screws per side, with fixed holes or curved slots for camera-angle adjustment.
- Rear antenna mounts. Design mounts for one or two antennas, with adjustable tube dimensions, rearward lean, and outward spread. Choose solid tubes or slit-and-zip-tie holders, then add a lower T-antenna holder, a GPS tray, or both.
- Electronics trays. Build trays sized for receivers, GPS modules, beepers, and other small electronics. Choose zip-tie mounting or one, two, or four mounting bolts, with retaining lips or partial top coverage to help keep the board in place.
- Drone feet from a photo. Import an underside photo of your drone arm, set the scale using a known measurement, and shape the outline to suit your frame. Guided tracing and curved outlines make it easier to work with different arm shapes.
- Editable project files. Save your work and return to it later with its settings intact. The full version exports printable STL files when you’re ready.
A free demo lets you explore the design tools, import sleeves, and save editable projects. Exporting is disabled in the demo, but saved projects can be opened and exported in the full version.
This is still a beta, and feedback on real frame layouts, unusual sleeves, and everyday usability will help shape the next updates.
